About

DarSudan e.V. is a cultural and arts organization based in Berlin. It was founded in 2021 by seven Sudanese and Sudanese-diasporic feminists, all with histories of struggle in social justice movements in Sudan, Germany and the United States.

The impetus for DarSudan was the December Revolution, which began at the end of 2018 in Sudan, and which continues today in the face of state violence and repression. Artists and cultural workers from across the country and its diasporas responded to the revolutionary call for "freedom, peace and justice" with an explosion of creativity — from poetry, to street art, music, writing and film. While their work draws inspiration from the long legacy of resistance art in the country, many have broken with tradition, inventing new vernaculars that are reshaping the arts and cultural landscape of the country.

As a non-profit organization, DarSudan serves as a platform for exchange between Sudanese (citizen and non-citizen) filmmakers, writers, musicians, visual and performance artists and the diverse communities that make up Berlin.
